The Paradox of Artificial Intelligence: Why the Development of AI Requires an Awakening of Human Sensitivity

Artificial Intelligence gives back to us what is most valuable and non-renewable in business: time. Yet in the face of this technological revolution, the fundamental and strategic question we must ask ourselves as leaders is: What will we do with this reclaimed time?

Most organisations today are making the same cognitive mistake. They treat AI purely as a technical tool, another application, or a simple add-on to existing software. When we adopt such a shallow perspective, we lose the full potential of innovation forever. Instead of a deep, high-quality transformation of business models, we get only a superficial operational facelift — a kind of fine-tuning. We do exactly the same things as before, only slightly faster. The results remain unchanged.

The real breakthrough comes when we start implementing AI in a highly strategic way — with clear intention, a precisely defined goal and a focus on creating real impact. Only then do we move beyond small improvements and enter the process of designing a completely new level of market value.

The Intellectual Effort of AI and the Philosophy of “Dolce Far Niente”

The more strategic Artificial Intelligence projects we deliver at Booster of Innovation for clients from different market sectors, the more clearly we see one key, yet often ignored, relationship:

Effective work with advanced AI technology requires enormous intellectual and conceptual effort from leaders and teams.

To manage algorithms effectively and transform business processes, our brains need regular cycles of recovery and energy renewal. This is exactly why, in the digital age, the classic Italian idea of “dolce far niente” – the sweetness of doing nothing – gains such powerful value.

For me personally, process automation through AI means reclaiming space for art and humanism. It means time for learning to paint, playing the piano, studying Italian, returning to artistic photography, or simply taking mindful walks.

This “sweet idleness” is not a waste of time. It is the highest form of strategic rest. It may be as simple as looking through photographs of one Baltic sunset and drawing from them creative metaphors, new interpretations and business inspiration.

Senses, Contrasts and Human Grounding

A recent evening by the Baltic Sea became, for me, a perfect moment to fully awaken the senses. The whole palette of colours spreading across the sky and the sea, the birds singing, children laughing as they played on the beach, the cool breeze, the taste of ice cream.

In this landscape, one fascinating engineering contrast struck me: the delicate wooden handrail of the pier set against the powerful concrete structure driven deep into the seabed, holding the whole construction stable despite the pressure of the waves.

It is a perfect metaphor for modern business:

The powerful concrete structure is our hard, advanced technology, AI systems and data infrastructure.

The wooden, human handrail is our sensitivity, empathy, intuition and senses.

One cannot exist without the other. Powerful technology without humanistic grounding becomes cold and useless.

Sensitivity as the Highest Business Competence

There is a direct, proportional relationship: the more we develop our unique human sensitivity, the better, more effective, and more innovative our collaboration with Artificial Intelligence becomes.

Machines can replicate logic and patterns with remarkable accuracy. But they cannot feel, notice deep metaphors, or design solutions from a place of genuine empathy.

In my own case, this strategic synergy of humanism and technology has worked perfectly and delivered measurable business results for the last nine years. As a thought leader and innovation leader, I encourage the same approach: let us not allow AI to turn us into robots. Let us allow AI to give us time to become more human.

Time for Strategic Reflection

How do you use the time that technology and automation free up in your daily professional life? Do you invest it in running operations even faster, or do you consciously give yourself space for dolce far niente, humanistic development, and building a strategic advantage based on human sensitivity?
